Miscellaneous stuff – Power adapters, toilet paper, etc

Power Adapters

Power in China is 220-240 volts.  This is similar to Europe, but not Canada or USA. Canada and USA  devices use 110v but may be able to  work with 220v if indicated on your device’s power supply or device markings..  If you plug your 110v device into a 240v outlet  there will be a flash of smoke and your device will be ruined.

To check if your device supports international travel, look at the power supply for markings that state 110~240.  If your device states 110~120v then you can not use this device in China without a step-down transformer. This marking is the operating range of the device i.e 110 to 240 volts.

Here are pictures of the plugs in China – Type A and Type B are the most common

Type A sockets are the most common in China. They are two-pronged and have round and flat holes.

This is a standard outlet in China.  The top accepts two pronged flat plugs, and two pronged round plugs.  The bottom accept the flat three prong chinese plugs,

Toilet Paper

It is expected that you would bring a small roll of toilet paper with you as you venture out and make use of public toilets. It’s just a thing in China….  You may find some nicer public toilets providing toilet paper, and some toilet s have a dispenser that will give you a few sheets of toilet paper after scanning your face for facial recognition so that you cant get more.  Take a few feet of paper and roll it up and bring it with you.
